Decorative hand built black and copper elephant

This hand made elephant is intricately sculpted, with a hand drawn rug and head dress etched onto the piece. There is an ethnic peacock pattern drawn delicately into the rug.

This is a unique elephant, which has been made with ashraf clay, a high quality material best suited for raku firing.

Once made, this piece has been fired, then decorated with a copper raku glaze.
Next it has been raku fired. This is an outdoor firing process where the elephant has been heated in a kiln and placed into sawdust (thus producing the charcoaled effect as the sawdust catches light once the art is placed into it) - the copper glaze takes colour once the oxygen hits it.

The work has a delicate and lovely raku 'smell' which will last a life time.
