Vintage Turkish Dashiki Shirt - GREEN
£19.00
This beautiful tunic is sewn from handloom organic cotton gauze fabric, with antique embroidered trim and tassel salvaged from a costume from the days of the Ottoman empire!
The shirt is tie-dyed vibrant green with natural plant dyes, and the fabric is soft but durable. Perfect for all seasons with its delicate weave!
The attached waist-tie can be adjusted to give a snug, shape-flattering fit, or loose to fit any size.
The intricately embroidered trim was found in Ankara, Turkey. It features delicate glass beadwork, embroidery and mirrorwork! According to the sprightly and mysterious old shopkeeper from whom I bought it, the trim dates back to the Ottoman Empire and was salvaged from a wedding gown. I've sewn it on to create a dazzlingly eye-catching neckline.
This is a wonderful one-of-a-kind shirt that cannot be found anywhere else! İt's a piece of history as well as a beautiful garment; casual and comfortable enough to wear every day, but resplendent enough for a special occasion.
Both shirt and trim are in excellent condition. The free-fitting size would fit most. To give you an idea, I'm 5'7, 51 kilos and it fits me splendidly; not tight but not baggy.
This shirt has now traveled with me to three countries and wants to see the world outside of my suitcase! A sad fate indeed to be rescued from obscurity and then sit about unused; when you give it a new home, you'll become part of its fascinating story.
