I met Vanitha on a sunny afternoon near a temple in Jodhpur. A former temple dancer, she fell upon hard times when she broke an arm, and I found her in rather dire straits - a tattered dress, her ornaments in pieces, and the last traces of makeup chipping away. Touched by this damsel in distress, I took her home.

A new dress, some ribbons and trims, a delicate limb operation, brand new ornaments and a bit of lipstick and eyeliner; soon Vanitha was good as new. Her theatrical background blossomed as I watched her recuperate quickly, her faded charisma restored and her movements lithe and graceful.

All of her new garments and ornaments are made from vintage tidbits to preserve her shabby chic.
