Moonlit Water Beaded Necklace
£83.00
This stunning pectoral style necklace is made using needle bead weaving techniques. This piece started out as something completely different, I wanted to make a piece of jewellery based on a photograph of ice vapour venting from the surface of the moon Enceladus!(See photos) This turned out to be a total failure, not very surprising. This is the result after leaving the initial necklace part lying around for weeks, I liked that part with the blue and white blending together.
The central stone is a disc of citrine held in a beaded mount using vintage and modern beads. Below it the smaller stone is a rainbow moonstone cabochon, this stone is mounted with beads in the same way but has a gold foil backing to give it a warmer glow. The two stones are incorporated into a necklace of brick stitch bead weaving using mostly japanese seed beads, there are a few vintage seed beads included as well. The necklace part has vintage faceted crystal beads on either side and a fringe of tiny blue seed beads. A vintage crystal drop bead is suspended from the bottom of the pendant part of the necklace. The two stones have a backing of fine white leather.
The necklace is fastened with an old mother of pearl bead and beaded loop.
It measures approx 18" around the neck and 6" from top to bottom
I've given this piece a deliberately uneven effect, I think it looks a bit like a piece of old lace.
This technique is very time consuming as each bead is woven into the necklace 1 at a time. I tend to make design decisions as I go, I have an overall idea of what the piece should look like but often change details as I'm working. This piece is a rather extreme example of that. This gives an organic feel to the work and keeps me from getting bored!
