Moon in the Clouds

This is an unusual piece, as it uses vintage lace in it's construction. The centre stone is a circular piece of clear quartz crystal with a hand drawn picture of the moon underneath. The face of the moon shows both full face and quarter face in the same image, difficult to describe but hopefully the images will show you what I mean
The crystal has a mount of vintage and modern seed beads and is backed with white leather, Two sections of vintage lace (technically embroidered net, but who wants to get technical) are attached using another row of seed beads.
A string of beads is wound round each piece of lace to give it a gathered appearance. The strands are attached at a couple of points on the lace to ensure they stay where I wanted them to be. at the other end of the lace beads are attached again, gathering the lace quite a bit to about half it's width. the necklace is then finished with brick stitch beading using mostly japanese delicas, in a rainbow crystal finish, with a scattering of vintage beads in various shades of whitelace to echo the embroidery. The beading also has holes in it to give a lacy, broken clouds feel. The necklace is fastened with a vintage facetted crystal bead and a beaded loop.
The top edge of each piece of lace is finished with a row of vintage and modern seed beads and there are strands of beads supended from the lower edge of the centre crystal. Each strand is finsihed with either a bead or a small pendant, two of which are hand made silver with a textured surface applied using old lace again.
A really elegant and beautiful necklace, this piece would be ideal for a bride but equally suitable for evening wear or even for everyday if you have that kind of style!
